Consumer Brands Commends New York State Assembly for Protecting Consumers from Harmful Legislation
ARLINGTON, VA – Consumer Brands Association released the following statement from John Hewitt, senior vice president of state affairs, recognizing the New York State Assembly for protecting New York consumers from harmful legislation (A1556):
“We commend the New York State Assembly for not advancing legislation that would have usurped our country’s federal regulatory authority, limited food options and increased costs for New Yorkers. The makers of America’s food and beverage products use safe ingredients that have been rigorously studied following an objective science and risk-based evaluation process. FDA’s Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) process plays an important role in enabling companies to innovate to meet consumer demand. The industry is committed to ingredient safety and consumer transparency as evident through their investment in tools such as Facts Up Front and SmartLabel. This is a win for New Yorkers and their continued access to safe, affordable, convenient food and beverage product choices. Consumer Brands looks forward to continued partnership with the New York State Legislature as we continue to ensure a safe and robust food supply.”
