Consumer Brands Issues Statement on the Trump Administration’s Executive Order Modifying the Scope of Reciprocal Tariffs

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Consumer Brands Association issued the following statement from President and CEO Melissa Hockstad on the Trump administration’s Executive Order modifying the scope of the reciprocal tariffs:

“Consumer Brands applauds President Trump’s Executive Order refining the administration’s America First trade policy to recognize unavailable natural resources. As the largest domestic manufacturing sector by workforce, the consumer packaged goods industry proudly sources 90 percent of ingredients and inputs from American farmers and suppliers, but certain ingredients and agricultural commodities are simply unavailable domestically due to climate conditions, geography and other factors. The onus is now on other countries to remove tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade, working toward deals that reduce U.S. trade deficits while still enabling access to irreplaceable products around the world. We also encourage the Trump administration to continually review its list of unavailable natural resources and other inputs that are not produced in adequate domestic supply, like tin mill steel. These efforts will help protect U.S. manufacturers and ensure the success of an America First trade policy that benefits Americans.”
