Fueling Consumer Choice

The consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry strives every day to provide consumers with a wide variety of safe, affordable and convenient options. These products are found everywhere from the grocery store to the school cafeteria, supporting shifts toward healthier dietary patterns while also recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

By enhancing product transparency and innovating to meet the demands of consumers, food and beverage companies continue to introduce new product options that include fewer preservatives, increased protein and fiber and no synthetic color additives, as well as alternatives such as non-dairy, gluten-free, low-sodium and low-sugar options.

Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA)

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), serve as the federal government’s cornerstone for nutrition policy and education, providing science-based recommendations that help the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry empower consumers to make the best choices to fit their lifestyle.

The CPG industry recognizes the DGAs as the central hub of federal dietary guidance and believes that all other federal nutrition policies should align with these guidelines, which must continue to reflect the latest scientific evidence, accommodate diverse dietary needs, and support innovation in food products, helping to shape a wide range of federal nutrition programs and regulatory policies, from school meals to labeling standards.
