Compliance with the 2022 New Jersey Recycled Content Law

Presented by The Consumer Brands Association and the New Jersey Food Council

June 10 | 12 p.m. ET

Join us for a webinar providing an overview of the new New Jersey Recycling Content Law and what is necessary for CPG companies to stay in compliance.

The webinar is open to all members of the Consumer Brands Association and the New Jersey Food Council and is recommended for state affairs professionals, packaging designers, and regulatory affairs professionals.

Background:

On January 18, 2022, the Governor of New Jersey signed S2515, establishing postconsumer recycled content (PCR) requirements for certain covered items (rigid plastic containers, plastic beverage containers, glass containers, paper and plastic carryout bags, and plastic trash bags) and prohibited the sale of polystyrene loose fill packaging (“packing peanuts”) in the state. This bill requires all manufacturers who offer the covered items for sale in the state to register with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection by July 2022 and comply with minimum PCR percentages for their products beginning  January 2024.

The act details:

  • The products are covered and their respective PCR percentage rates and effective dates.
  • Who is responsible for and exempt from meeting those requirements.
  • The process for requesting waivers based on extenuating circumstances that prevent compliance and penalties for noncompliance.

It is essential for producers, including private label brand owners, of covered items to understand the requirements of this law and the process for complying.
