Twin brothers Luke and Jett Justin, Boca Raton natives, have always been passionate about helping their community. The pair has volunteered at their local food pantry, Boca Helping Hands, since they were seven years old. While at the food pantry, the boys noticed there was a shortage of breakfast foods and came up with the idea of a cereal drive.
The first two years of the drive were a massive success, as the boys and their classmates collected nearly 500 boxes of cereal in 2017 and 1,800 in 2018 for Boca Helping Hands. To make the 2019 drive their biggest yet, Luke and Jett had the idea to reach out to the General Mills cereal team for help.
General Mills delivered — literally. On March 12, as the boys and their classmates were taking photos with the 2,700 cereal boxes they had collected, a truck pulled away to reveal more than 2,500 more boxes of Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Corn Chex and Rice Chex from General Mills. The large donation brought the grand total donated to more than 5,200 boxes of cereal for Boca Helping Hands.
“I was shocked when the truck pulled out and the cereal was there,” Luke said. “We doubled the amount of cereal within seconds of the truck pulling out. It was amazing.”
